Khaki Publishing traces its roots back to 1999, when our founder, Robert, crossed the line into the Goat Locker as a Chief Petty Officer; and later in 2002, when he crossed the line into the Wardroom as a Chief Warrant Officer. He reasoned that those career accomplishments were just as significant (if not more so) than his crossing the Equator, and that there should be substantial certificates to commemorate those events as well.
As a retiree in 2008, Robert took a few colored pencils and created a couple of initial sketches which came to be known officially as “Welcome to the Mess” and “Mustang Corral.” Khaki Publishing opened its first web portal in November in 2010 and sold its first “Mustang Corral” certificate almost immediately.
Our product offerings increased from simply providing two certificates when AT1 Benjamin Moore asked us to design and original, Mustang-themed program for his commissioning as an Ensign in November 2013. The result was a standard sized half-page program, printed on full color, glossy brochure-quality paper. The program layout ingeniously opened up into an oversized 17×11 Mustang Corral centerfold, which featured his order of program, duty station history and the famous LDO/CWO quote by Major Gerald P. Averill. The program format has proven to work well for retirement ceremonies as well.
Near the conclusion of 2013, Khaki Publishing was proud to add a line of custom Retirement and Service certificate options for all branches of the Armed Services. Each version is designed in the familiar color pallet of each service and features custom images that represent the unique achievement of the individual customer.
